3 PeaksWalk – Training Days

by on Aug.18, 2010, under Training Days

We have done quite a few 3 peaks training walks so far, getting ready for the big day and will have completed all of the Yorkshire Three Peaks individually before the big walk on the 28th of August.

We started off walking Pen-Y-Ghent and have completed this twice with both Aaron and Ali.

The third practice walk was from Horton to Ingleborough and then back, on this one we had, Dave, Ali, Aaron, Lynn, Gemma, Nina and myself.

Great weather on the way there but really cloudy up on the top.

Last week I did Whernside, which I found quite tough, a good practice walk though.

Great views from up there, I need to get a gallery page together featuring the best photos.

Looking forward to Whernside again this weekend, hope the weather stays good! A big thanks to everyone who is taking part

Three Peaks Training Days

by on Apr.15, 2010, under Training Days

3 peaks walkWe will be setting up training days as we work up to the sponsored Three Peaks Walk. These are pretty important and we need to make sure that the people who take part can walk long distances.

These can be arranged individually or if you are looking for someone to go with either contact me and I’ll add it to this section or see the Forum Post on the intranet (Farnell Employees only).  Ian Baxter and most recently Kelly Walker have already been up and completed some of the Peaks in the last few weeks.

Things to take:
Basic first aid kit
Extra boot laces
Water or Hydration Packs
Water Proofs
Energy Food/Food
Map
Compass
Phone

Correct Footwear – This has to be one of the most important things, good Walking Boots that fit properly and that have been worn in on practice walks.

Where are the Three Peaks?

by on Apr.15, 2010, under Where?

Three peaks walkThe Three Peaks are situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Three Peaks Walk includes the mountains Pen-y-ghent (2,277 ft), Ingleborough  (2,372 ft) and Whernside (2,415 ft) these are known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks and are part of the Pennine range in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Three Peaks Challenge – Walkers aim to complete a 23.4 mile circuit of walking the three peaks with 5,249 ft of ascent and descent within twelve hours. The Three Peaks Walk was first detailed by Alfred Wainwright in his 1971 guide ‘Walks in Limestone Country’

If you complete the walk within 12 hours, and have used the antique clocking machine in the Pen-y-Ghent cafe, you will be also invited to join the “Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club”. Members get their own special badge and tie.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park runs a Friends of the Three Peaks Club, for those completing the challenge. The proceeds of this go to the up keep of the paths along the walk.
